The 2E produced between 1963 and 1970 is one of the most iconic sports car till now, giving a tough competition to Ford GT40 and Porsche 917. It was one of the very first cars to use a rear wing, designed by the founder himself- Jim Hall. Hall wanted to create a car aerodynamically fit and he showed the world that the engine was not the only component which helped you win. 2E was the first car to use downforce to accelerate the pace and rightly so it gave a tough competition to the European manufacturers.
Eagle MK1 was designed by Len Terry for Dan Gurney’s Formula One Racing team. It was called Eagle T1G in the world championship. It is one of most beautiful cars raced in the championship. The car boasted of a 3L Gurney-Weslake V12 engine in that era of motorsport. The car holds a very special record, Dan Gurney is only the third driver in Formula One history to win a race in a car of gis own construction.
Lotus 56, the car built for competing in 1968 Indianapolis 500 was one of the most technologically advanced car to race. The car used a gas turbine engine instead of an internal combustion engine, this is what you find on an aircraft. The car was so powerful that the organizers asked the team to reduce the air intake by 35%. The car which was capable of winning the race couldn’t even finish the race because of mechanical problems caused by the reduction in air intake. Nevertheless, the car holds a special place in the hearts of motorsport enthusiasts.
Ford GT LM GTE 2016
Ford made a comeback to Le Mans in 2016 with this car. It first appeared in the Detroit Auto Show, where it stole everyone’s attention. It’s livery is one of the best Le Mans has ever seen. It boasts of a 3.5 litre Ecoboost V6 engine, the most powerful Ecoboost engine ever! No wonder it won that year.
Dodge Viper GTS-R
Even if you ask a normal person to list their favourite racing cars, he’ll surely jott Dodge Viper down. It was the most elegant and aerodynamically efficient car of the modern era. The GTS-R version launched in 2000 went 3 inches lower and 2 inches wider. Osamu Shikadu, the designer used race inspired lines with an aggressive stance. With 500 horsepowers and 500lb-ft of torque in the car, we made sure to emboss it in our list!
