EIcars Bentley TTO have announced they will field a Bentley Continental GT3 in Super GT for the 2017 season, which will be driven by the experienced and successful driver lineup of Yuji Ide and Ryohei Sakaguchi.
The Bentley will carry the number #117 and will be sponsored by luxury car dealers EIcars, although the livery is yet to be confirmed. This is a logical step for Bentley, as Super GT had become the most significant series left for the crew based marque to conquer. The Continental will now join an already variety filled grid, and will contribute to adding another, unique type of car to the GT300 field.
The driver lineup of Yuji Ide and Ryohei Sakaguchi is both quick and experienced. Of course Ide, 42, is most famous for his 4 abysmal races in F1, but he has had GT500 victories and Super Formula experience. Sakaguchi, also 42, is a 4 time Super Taikyu champion. He made his Super GT debut in 2007 but hasn’t been as successful as Ide. However has still shown flashes of pace. Expect this car to be competitive right from the word ‘go’.
The only catch for Bentley fans is that this car is unlikely to compete for the championship. This is because team TTO have elected not to enter the car in the international round at the Buriram Circuit in Thailand. However despite this a quick car, a good team and two very capable pilots should lead to a relatively successful debut season in 2017.
