Estrella Galicia’s Aron Canet has taken his second ever pole position at the Circuit of the America’s track in Austin, after the Spaniard broke the lap record and finished a whopping 0.9s ahead of Joan Mir and Romano Fenati who completed the front row.
Canet, who dominated all of Friday’s free practice sessions, once again picked up from where he left off, as he secured his second pole position with an effortless 2:14.644s, which broke the Circuit lap record by seven tenths of a second.
Championship leader Joan Mir started the session quite slowly, lingering down towards 15th on the grid, however with only a few minutes remaining, the Leopard rider set a 2:15.631s which was good enough for the middle of the front row ahead of last year’s winner Romano Fenati who finished a positive session in third.
Nicolo Bulega, who benefited from the tow of Mir finished a credible fourth, with the Gresini pair of Jorge Martin and Fabio Di Giannantonio in fifth and sixth. Enea Bastianini will start Sundays race from seventh ahead of Countryman Niccolo Antonelli and John McPhee. Despite a late crash, Bo Bendsneyder completed the top ten.
Darryn Binder continued his strong weekend in P11 ahead of top rookie Tony Arbolino who will start the race from an impressive P12. RBA racing team duo of Juanfran Guevara and Gabriel Rodrigo crossed the line P13 and P14 respectively, with German rider Philipp Oettl rounding out the top fifteen.
