The Brazilian, who takes his 50th overall pole, finished 1st, 0.0604 seconds ahead of his Penske teammate, Will Power, with teammates, Newgarden and Pagenaud looking out the second row.
Four times Champion, Scott Dixon qualified 5th for the Honda powered Chip Ganassi team 1.6 seconds off Castroneves. Graham Rahal qualified 6th to round out the Firestone fast Six.
Former F1 driver, Max Chilton, managed 7th for Chip Ganassi, ahead of Marco Andretti for Andretti Autosport.
Sebastian Bourdais’ replacement, former Haas F1 and Sauber driver, Esteban Gutierrez, qualified 17th for Dale Coyne Racing. This year’s Indy 500 winner, Takuma Sato has had a difficult weekend and has qualified 20th with only Conor Daly behind him.
