Unlike yesterday, it was a sunny start to day two of the World Superbikes championship in Magny-Cours.
Chaz Davies took his second victory of the weekend, making it the third double win he’s had this season.
Jonathan Rea was not going to give up easily. He is currently leading the championship and his team mate Tom Sykes is closing in with every race. Sykes took an early lead and Rea spent a good portion of the race trying to catch up. It wasn’t exactly plain sailing though, as Davies was stalking Rea round the track, desperately trying to close in and take his second victory. He breezed past Rea and Sykes and led the two KRT’s for the last few laps.
Eventually, Rea managed to get past Sykes and keep the championship in sight with Davies not really posing a threat. Rea now sits with a 48 point lead over Sykes, and an 81 point lead over Davies.
Sykes also managed to break the existing lap record, putting in a new fastest lap of 1:38.304 which is something positive he can take away from the weekend.
A really impressive weekend from Leon Camier who has struggled with results all season. After his solid 7th place finish yesterday, he finished 4th today after successfully keeping Honda’s Michael van der Mark at bay.
World Superbikes rolls into Jerez for the penultimate round of the championship, with practice beginning on the 14th October.
