Chaz Davies will head into superpole this morning full of confidence, after the Ducati rider put in a flurry of quick laps to top FP3. Jonathan Rea was close behind in second with Aruba Ducati’s second rider Marco Melandri completing the top three.
Davies, who struggled yesterday due to engine problems, put in a flurry of quick laps towards the end of the session to displace early pacesetter Rea. A 1:50.941s saw the Brit shoot to the top of the standings with two minutes remaining and he bettered that as the chequered flag was being waved, improving his time to a 1:50.940s.
It was a different story for reigning World Champion Rea, who carried out a 13-lap run in preparation for this afternoon’s race. The Northern Irishman was consistently lapping within the 1:51.00s-1:51.727 which shows he has extremely strong race pace and the Kawasaki rider will be a feared man ahead of the race one.
Marco Melandri completed the session in third, doing a 1:51.215 on his final lap which only puts him 0.275s behind teammate Davies. Tom Sykes finished the session fourth meanwhile Spaniard Xavi Fores will give the home fans some confidence ahead of today’s race as he rounded out the top five.
Jordi Torres and Eugene Laverty were sixth and seventh fastest respectively, Leandro Mercado, Stefan Bradl and Markus Reiterberger completed the top ten.
