With all the hype of this season’s cars being showcased, it’s easy to forget about an extremely important part of an F1 car; the engine.
Undoubtedly, Mercedes will be strong, but at the other end of the scale, Torro Rosso, who are sporting a new Renault engine were forced to cut a filming session short due to an apparent engine failure.
The Red Bull sister team were finalising the car for the launch of the STR12 on Sunday at Misano, Italy – unfortunately, mechanics were unable to get the French unit running again. It’s been said that the problem is related to the energy recovery system, something which did affect a few teams last year.
After making the switch from Ferrari to Renault power units, things don’t look great for Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz Jr, along with the rest of the Italian team.
Fingers crossed Renault can get it resolved soon!
