Josh Files took his first race win of 2017 in Abu Dhabi, narrowly beating Davit Kajaia’s Alfa Romeo Guilietta in race one of TCR Middle East round two.
The Lap57 Honda Civic racer started from pole position just ahead of the Georgian for Mulsanne Racing but relinquished the lead immediately with a poor start.
Kajaia looked set to take the first win for the Alfa until two laps remained when the Brit finally found a way past the defensive driving of the leader to take the win by 1.3 seconds.
Behind the lead battle it seemed relatively plain sailing for 16 year old debutant Giacomo Altoe in the Top Run Motorsport Subaru WRX, taking the final podium spot in a lonely race for the talented youngster.
Championship leader Brandon Gdovic would take fourth spot despite a clash with Engstler Volkswagon Golf teammate Luca Engstler on the final lap which would result in Engstler not crossing line but classified as sixth, as Files’ teammate Mohammed Al Owaisi took fifth despite also not being able to complete the final lap.
