Egor Orudzhev turned on the style to score his third victory of 2016 in the second race of the weekend in Monza.
Orudzhev made a superb start to fly up from fifth on the grid into the lead and was never headed after that. Rene Binder kept him within sight however settled for second, with Louis Deletraz getting third and closing Tom Dillmann’s championship lead to only 11 points. A poor stop for Dillmann meant he only finished in eighth.
The start was marred by a scary flight for Aurelien Panis, who tagged wheels with Vitor Baptista and flew in the air, with a heavy landing. A six-lap safety-car period followed as Panis was taken from his car on an air bed before being transferred to hospital with back pains.
Roy Nissany was meant to start on pole, however having stalled on the grid he was relegated to the back, and charged through to sixth.
The next rounds are on the 29th and 30th October at Jerez.
