Jason Plato believes the Subaru Levorg is a much better car going into the 2017 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.
Hitting the track at the annual season launch at Donington Park in a revised livery on Thursday (16th March), the double champion admitted that the developments have improved the car massively over the winter period. Plato completed 28 laps during the afternoon test session finishing with the 17th fastest time.
“We worked through our programme and just concentrated on what we had planned at the test” he said.
“As everyone saw last year the car came on leaps and bounds with our development through the season, and that has carried on into the winter. We’ve dug down deep over the last few months, got some weight out of the car and really made it a better package. All round it is a much better car.”
Team BMR are set to take part in a further two days of testing before the curtain raiser at Brands Hatch in two weeks time and Plato is keen to make sure the team are as ready as they can be.
He explained: ” We have some areas that we want to look at over the coming two days just to fine tune the car before round one. It is also going to be a good opportunity just to go through the bog-standard stuff like some practice starts and getting the guys do some pit-stops – basically just getting everyone ready.”
On the teams objectives for the year ahead,Jason said “We want pole position and we want race wins. That is why we do this and it is what I am paid to do. The car is much better than last year and I expect to be right up at the sharp end of the grid!”.
