This weekend we see the World Superbike paddock head to Thailand, for round two of the championship.
As always, we started off with SP1 where Leon Camier and Lorenzo Savadori were ones who progressed into SP2. The Honda’s still looked to be in trouble as Nicky Hayden and Stefan Bradl struggled to put in lap times near the top two.
As we moved into SP2, we saw a small crash from Chaz Davies towards the end of the session. He managed to get back out on track with three minutes to go and set a time strong enough to keep him in 5th.
Unsurprisingly, it was Rea who put in the fastest time of the session, as he started from pole position for the first race.
Race one was as simple as it can get. Jonathan Rea led the race from start to finish to bring home another effortless win. It wasn’t an action packed one. There was a bit of a battle at the back end of the top ten with Jordi Torres ultimately getting the better of Camier. There was a battle between team mates Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark throughout the race, but it was van der Mark who made it to the line first, just over three seconds ahead of his team mate.
But the one thing we didn’t expect to see was Tom Sykes passing Marco Melandri on the final corner of the last lap, just pipping him to the line.
Coverage from the Thai World Superbike round continues tomorrow in the early hours (GMT) on Eurosport.
