Thai racer Katandhee Kusiri took a commanding win in the opening round of the TCR Asia Series from pole position in his Engstler Motosport Volkswagon Golf.
With the R Engineering Honda Civics of Lai Wei Sing and Abdul Kaathir relegated to the back of the grid for technical irregularities, Kusiri got the jump on teammate Diego Moran as Eric Kwong was fired into the pit wall at the start of the race.
This caused a safety car period as the debris from the SEAT Leon was cleared but when it resumed Kusiri continued from where he left off, soon building a big advantage.
Ecuadorian Moran would hold on for second spot ahead of the similar car of Tin Sritrai, run by Team Thailand.
Sing fought his way up from the back of the grid to claim fourth ahead of impressive seventeen year old Jasper Thong, the Hong Kong driver the best of the two new Audi RS3 LMS’ in fifth, keeping Kaathir at bay in sixth.
