Jari-Matti Latvala has won the Rally Sweden. Toyota have got their first victory after returning to the WRC after only two races. The Japanese brand must be very exited looking forward to Mexico after their first victory since 1999. Latvala won the rally with 29.2 seconds to M-Sport’s Ott Tänak on second and 59.5 seconds to third placed Sebastien Ogier.
More action from this weeks rally will get up later today.
Driver pairing under questions already
Latvala’s formidable results this season have put under questions his teammate Juho Hänninen. Hänninen held great pace to start the season, but crashed into a tree in Monte Carlo. In Sweden he had fell from Latvala’s pace and ended his rally crashing into a tree, again. As Toyota have the promising talent of Esapekka Lappi waiting for his turn, some people have stated it would be better to swith Hänninen with Lappi. No use to waste time and money by having the slower driver in the car.
Whether Toyota are looking on the possibility of switching drivers, the team at least is on the right track. Going into Mexico, Toyota are on a surprisingly strong position.
