Former Mercedes technical boss and mastermind behind the Silver Arrows dominance Paddy Lowe, is set to join Williams to become a shareholder and director.
Lowe has been on the verge of moving but now it has been official announced and the 54-year-old will join the Grove based team ahead of a challenging 2017 campaign.
Although the deal is almost complete, Lowe still needs to formally complete his gardening leave from Mercedes.
Moving to Williams, Lowe will have complete control over the technical department ahead of a major overhaul of the aerodynamics.
At Mercedes, Paddy Lowe was a major figure in their dominance but a move Williams offers a fresh challenge for the technical director.
Williams have dropped down the pecking since the introduction of the hybrid power units but with a new change in the regulations anything is possible in 2017.
Lowe position in Williams is yet to be decided as the team are unable to comment on his position within the team but the decision will be made shortly.
2017 could be an exciting season for Williams with the introduction of Lowe and the promise of young driver Lance Stroll. Stroll will make his debut this season but has been under criticism for being a paid driver but has insisted his has the talent to match.
