Valtteri Bottas topped day three of the first pre-season testing with an impressive 1:19.705 on the ultrasoft tyres. The W08 showed excellent reliability and speed throughout a long day of testing in Barcelona.
Surprisingly Sebastian Vettel was only two tenths behind the Finish driver on the slower soft tyres, the Ferrari SF70H completed 139 laps showing the prancing horses may be a real challenge to the Silver Arrows.
Day three produced some of the quickest laps ever seen at the Circuit de Catalunya for eight years with Mercedes once again leading the field.
Daniel Ricciardo set a respectable lap time in third place albeit over one second slower than the Mercedes and Ferrari. The RB13 set 70 laps on day three although that was nearly half the laps of the Ferrari.
Elsewhere on the field, Renault showed impressive pace at the hands of Nico Hulkenberg while Sauber were sixth overall on day three although on the faster supersoft tyres.
Lewis Hamilton had the chance to test the Mercedes’ race pace with 95 laps, the three-time World Champion was seventh fastest on the soft tyres with a 1:22:090.
Lance Stroll created headlines after crashing the FW40 for the second time, the 18-year-old looked under pressure in front of the media, but the young Canadian will be judged at the first race in Australia.
McLaren Honda were again at the bottom end of the timing sheets after suffering yet more woes with the Honda power unit but Fernando Alonso completed some good, solid running completing 72 laps.
The Toro Rosso’s sandwiched the Force India but with most teams focusing on set up and long runs, times were irrelevant at this time.
