Monteiro shows TCR regulars the way in practice one

World touring car Honda JAS works driver Tiago Monteiro led first practice for the Macau Guia race, the final round in this season’s TCR International and Asia championships.

The Portuguese driver, driver guesting this weekend for WestCoast Racing in the Honda Civic TCR, set a flyer late on to jump 0.372s ahead of championship contender Pepe Oriola for Craft-Bamboo in the SEAT Leon and WestCoast teammate Gianni Morbidelli.

The two Leopard Racing Volkswagon Golfs of Stefano Comini and Jean-Karl Vernay dominated proceedings at the start of the session, with both still in the hunt for the title, with an early red flag causing a brief stoppage, the due would eventually sink to fourth and fifth.

TCR Germany champion Josh Files put in a stellar performance to end the session in sixth in his Target Competition Honda Civic to prove he is worthy of the International series ahead of Russian Sergey Afanasyev, who will surely be backing up teammates Oriola and James Nash for title glory.

Championship leader Nash ended first practice in eighth, 1.950s behind Monteiro as being the only driver carrying success ballast, just ahead of the two Engstler Motorsport Golfs of Andy Yan and Davit Kajaia.
