Gianni Morbidelli took over the top spot at Macau in practice two for WestCoast Racing in the Honda Civic TCR with teammate Tiago Monteiro sidelined after a turbo problem left him down in 30th spot.
An early red flag again curtailed the session after the luckless Douglas Khoo crashed his Viper Niza Racing SEAT Leon at Fishermans, but not before title contenders and Lukoil Craft-Bamboo teammates James Nash and Pepe Oriola could try some slipstreaming through the fast Mandarin but ultimately ending in contact at the famous Lisboa.
When the session resumed the B3 Racing cars of Dusan Borkovic and Mat’o Homola took turns at the top of the timesheets but would eventually finish up sixth and seventh with the third car of Attila Tassi an impressive ninth on his first visit to the Portuguese colony.
Morbidelli then took the lead, a full 0.482s ahead of Oriola with all four championship contenders together as Stefano Comini and Jean-Karl Vernay in the Leopard Racing Volkswagon Golfs effectively splitting the Lukoil cars for third, fourth and fifth.
Josh Files again proved he was capable of running with the International series boys, the TCR Germany champion setting the eighth fastest time in his Target Competition Honda Civic TCR ahead of Tassi and the Engstler Motorsport Golf of Andy Yan.
The session was relatively tame, with only Team Thailand’s Tin Sritrai crashing his Honda at Lisboa and Kevin Tse also colliding with the wall.
