Williams are already stronger than Mercedes in certain areas according to new Williams chief technical officer Paddy Lowe.
Lowe has joined Williams recently after masterminding the dominance of Mercedes for the past three seasons, but has played down his impact on Williams for the upcoming season. Williams have showed impressive speed in pre-season testing and Lowe has highlighted that the FW40 has some impressive elements that could challenge Mercedes.
The Chief Technical Officer last worked for Williams in the early 1990’s but has insisted that he will be fully focused on Australia rather than thinking about his previous time with the Williams team.
Williams hope that recruiting Paddy Lowe will give the team a fighting chance in returning to the glory days of the past. The 2017 season will give teams a brand new set of rules to play with, hopefully Williams will adapt to the new rules and challenge the top three who have a slight edge.
Australia is less than a week away and teams and drivers will be able to find out the pecking order around the streets of Albert Park.
