Will Power has won the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono after coming back from being a lap down with an issue early on in the race. The Australian held off team mate, Joseph Newgarden in the final 10 laps for a Team Penske 1-2. 2016 Indy 500 winner, Alexander Rossi came 3rd for the Honda powered Andretti Motorsport.
Reigning Champion, Simon Pagenaud came 4th for Team Penske, followed by Chip Ganassi’s Tony Kanaan and Scott Dixon finishing 5th and 6th respectively.
Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay was taken to a local hospital following a heavy crash in qualifying, after his broke loose exiting Turn 3 and made contact with the wall on the left side. It then travelled back across the track and impacted the inside wall, again with the left side of car.
Although Hunter-Reay was seen moving in the cockpit, he immediately began complaining of pain in his hip and needed help from the safety team to get out of the car. As they helped him get into the ambulance, as Hunter-Reay was walking with a significant limp.
Despite winning three races, Power only sits 5th in the Championship with Newgarden the still the leader with 494 points. Scott Dixon moves up to 2nd with 476 points and Helio Castroneves drops 2nd with 472 points. Only three races remain in the 2017 season.
The Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Valvoline will take place on Saturday the 26th of August at the Gateway Motorsports Park, Madison, Illinois. This will be the Gateway’s first appearance on the calendar since 2003.
