It has been confirmed in the last few minutes that Scott Redding will be replacing Sam Lowes at Aprilia for the 2018 season.
Sam Lowes’ seat at Aprilia has been in doubt for a while (even though he is contracted to Aprilia for two years), as he hasn’t been getting the results the team were hoping for. Redding stepping in to partner Aleix Espargaro is somewhat controversial, with many believing that Lowes hasn’t had the time to get to grips with the bike. He stepped up from Moto2 at the start of the 2017 season, and has only been given ten races to produce results, which some may say isn’t fair.
It’s a real shame for Lowes, but a lifeline for Redding who was looking set to lose his place in the GP paddock, as it was announced earlier that Jack Miller was taking his spot at Pramac Ducati.
It is not yet known what Lowes’ plans are for next season.
