WestCoast Racing have today announced they will switch from the Honda Civic TCR to an as yet to be announced car for the 2017 TCR International series.
The move comes after the Swedish squad have had too many DNFs this season, mostly from poor reliability which has left lead driver Gianni Morbidelli out of the title fight going into the last round at Macau this weekend despite a decent start to the season.
WestCoast also has a new sponsor on board, Acronis, a data protection company who are also involved with the Toro Rosso Formula 1 operation, after their long term partner, Sportpromotion, have now decided to concentrate their efforts on promoting the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship which will run to TCR regulations for the first time in 2017.
WestCoast boss Dick Jonsson Wigroth has made it clear his team will be in the International series next season but admits he does not yet know if it will be with two or three cars, and when asked about drivers indicated that he would like to retain Morbidelli and Mikhail Grachev and hopefully bring Kevin Gleason back to the fold.
Although the car is yet to be announced Jonsson Wigroth did mention how pleased he was that Audi had built the RS3 LMS and how much of a boost it was for the series. A possible hint?
