Jacques Villeneuve, 1997 Formula One World Champion for the Williams squad, has reportedly been banned from his former team’s motorhome at Grand Prix’s.
The Sky Italia television pundit has been especially critical of fellow countryman Lance Stroll, who had a difficult start to his 2017, before a surprise 3rd placed finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. In spite of this, Villeneuve called Stroll the ‘worst rookie’ in F1 history.
It is rumoured that the former employers of the 1997 champion have made it clear that Villeneuve is no longer welcome in their hospitality unit, with the team understandably backing their young driver.
Claire Williams and other senior members of the team have showed support to Stroll, telling Corriere dello Sport, “With regard to Jacques, he’s obviously been pretty vocal in the media…I don’t want to go into a huge amount of detail about it. The way that Lance describes it, he just wants to get on and let his track performance do the talking. I think that’s what we should do, because that’s when the critics will stop — when Lance proves he deserves to be in Formula One, which we all at Williams believe anyway.”
Stroll currently sits 12th in the drivers championship with 18 points, just one position below teammate Felipe Massa.
