Tom Chilton has confirmed he is to race full campaigns in the British Touring Car Championship and the World Touring Car Championship in 2017, becoming the first driver in history to compete in both simultaneously.

The 31 year-old has re-signed with Sebastien Loeb racing for the coming WTCC season, once again driving a Citroen C-Elysee, having already been confirmed at Power Maxed Racing in the manufacture backed Vauxhall Astra. Racing dual campaigns was made possible this season as for Chilton there are no calendar clashes between the two series.

Chilton was quoted in saying “It’s going to be a busy year but I’m immensely proud and excited to be working with Sébastien Loeb Racing again in what is going to be a thrilling season” following the announcement he would remain with SLR in 2017.

Chilton finished eighth overall in the WTCC last season and returns to the BTCC for the first time since 2011 having last raced for Team AON in the Global Ford Focus, before switching to the WTCC in the same car.

He returns to the BTCC this season, partnering rookies Senna Proctor who raced in the Renault Clio Cup UK last season, finishing eighth in his debut season in the series. Chilton has raced for Vauxhall before having enjoyed two seasons as a factory driver in 2006 and 2007, partnering Fabrizio Giovanardi.
