Mahindra’s Felix Rosenqvist has taken pole position for the second round of the 2017-18 Formula E Championship ahead of Jaguar’s Mitch Evans and Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara.
After the four group stages of qualifying, it was Evans who had topped the session overall ahead of Birthday Boy Daniel Abt, rookie Mortara landed himself in his first ever superpole in his second ever race, and comfortably as well ahead of Felix Rosenqvist and championship leader Sam Bird who will take a 10 place penalty. However in Superpole it was Rosenqvist who set the pace ahead of Evans, Mortara, Bird and Abt.
The positions of 6-20 are only decided by the group qualifying sessions, and Alex Lynn just missed out on Superpole and will start fifth after his teammate’s penalty. Antonio Felix da Costa will start where he finished yesterday, ahead of Vergne in seventh, the NIO drivers of Turvey and Filippi will start eighth and ninth ahead of yesterday’s podium finisher, Nick Heidfeld.
Nelson Piquet will start eleventh alongside his old rival and reigning champion, Lucas Di Grassi, Nico Prost will start 13th, alongside Sam Bird who is slotted into 14th following his penalty for dangerous driving yesterday.
Maro Engel qualified 15th ahead of Kobayashi, Andre Lotterer, and the Dragon Racing cars of Jerome D’Ambrosio and Neel Jani, with former champion Sebastien Buemi starting last, his worst ever Formula e start, after hitting the wall in turn 5, moments before where his teammate hit the wall yesterday.
The second HKT Hong Kong E-Prix gets underway at 7:00UTC.
