Round 6 of the FIA WEC Championship saw the prototypes battle out at the Circuit of America for the 6 Hours Of America. The lights turned green a the 20 minute session started for LMP1 and LMP2 Cars. Throughout the Practice Session the time sheet showed that the Audi had a clear cut advantage around the tricky 3.4 Mile circuit. But the battle for 3rd Place between the Porsche and Toyota was fierce. The first LMP1 car to hit the track was the #1 Porsche first timed lap was a 1:46.527 on average the #1 Porsche posted a provisional pole time of 1’46.560 the time stood but for not too long. The #8 Audi was first to beat the Porsche’s time with an average lap of 1:45.987 just over 0.6 seconds faster than the Porsche. Not too soon after again the times fell. This time the #7 Audi displaced his teammate in the #8 from pole position with a time just over 2 tenths of a second faster than the #8. The average time for the #7 Audi was a 1’45.750. Just two tenths off being a whole second clear of the first Porsche. Meanwhile the #2 Porsche was in battle with the Toyota #6. By the end of the session the #6 Toyota was able to better the time of the #2 Porsche. With an lap time average of 1:47.218 was good enough to beat the Porsche by less than a tenth of a second. In the Privateer class ByKolles edged out Rebellion Racing to Privateer Pole Position.
In the FIA WEC Press Conference Marcel Fässler said “The car was fantastic to driver. Especially in the fast corners with the low fuel”
Andre Lotter agreed with Fassler’s comment stating he too enjoyed attack the lap, especially through sector 1
In LMP2 The Hero’s of the 6 Hours Of Mexico in #43 Car set the early LMP2 Pace. Gonzalez Senna and Albuquerque took provisional Pole Position with average time of 1:57.367. Into the session with the greener track conditions and the order flipped again. At the Top Manor #44 was able to able to better the time of the #43 car by setting an average lap time of 1:56.873 a time just over 5 tenth of second quicker than the #43. The number #26 Oreca Nissan hit troubles and was unable to set a second lap time after times were deleted due to violation of track limits. With a first lap time of a 1:57.208 it looked promising for the 26 Crew but ended thinking what could’ve been. The #42 Strakka Racing team lined up P4 with an average lap time with a time of a 1:57.536 less than 2 tenth off the time of P3. Overall the #36 Signatech Alpine took their first Pole Position of the year after a storming effort saw them post an average lap time over a whole second quicker than the #44 Manor Motorsport car. With a 1:55.892 on the clock in LMP2 Class no one was able to find the time to challenge leaving the Rest of the field to pick up the remains.
Pole position man Nicolas Lapierre spoke the FIA WEC in a interview after the session. “It was Nice session and we got our First pole of the season, We know in this racing it doesn’t matter too much but it’s a nice feeling.”
