Formula E returns to Uruguay – Sao Paulo out

Punta Del Este will return to the Formula E Calendar after a year absense, in 2018, after Sao Paulo was no longer possible to host the 6th round of the championship, taking place on 17th March 2018.

The Coastal City hosted the third rounds of the championship in both Season 1 and 2, however was dropped in Season 3, and was not planned to return in Season 4. Jean Eric Vergne took his first pole in Season 1, in his first ever race, with Jerome D’Ambrosio taking his first pole in Season 2. Both races were won by Season two champion, Sebastien Buemi.

Situated on the picturesque Playa Brava Beach, the 2.785km course sees a return to Season Two’s track with 20 turns running the length of the seafront. “It’s the most unique track,” said double winner Sebastien Buemi. “With a lot of quick, tight chicanes. It’s a very high-speed circuit, which I enjoy.”

Sao Paulo is set to take to the calendar in season 5, following the postponement of the 2018 race. It remains unclear if Punta del Este will remain on the Calendar for Season 5.
