Gasly Edges Teammate Giovinazzi to pole.

Round 9 of the 2016 GP2 Series Season seen the drivers challenging the historic Monza circuit in Italy.

Qualifying kicked off with a track temperature of 41 degrees a perfect day for the drivers to fight for pole Position.

Oliver Rowland was the first driver to head out on track bring the rest of the pack round after him, as the first laps were set the Brits of Rowland,King, & Lynn we’re all inside of the top 10, Rowland briefly took Provisional Pole but was almost immediately bettered but Gasly who lowered the benchmark by 0.2 second clocking in a 1:31.7 in the early stages of qualifying. Marciello was an early challenger setting  a time just under 2 tenths slower than Gasly but beating Rowland setting a 1:31.986 good enough for P2.

Nearing the end of the first run the Trident of Philo Armand locked up into the Variante Chicane forcing the Indonesian to deviate through the escape road, ultimately putting an end to his flying lap. The cars headed back into the pit lane to prepare for the second runs, where the final battle for Pole Position would take place. Marciello and his engineered decided to go out on with the track to himself early on in the second part of the session after the two warm up laps The Italian could not better his time keeping him P8 behind his teammate Markelov in P4. As Marciello Started his final lap the Rest of the field came out to start the final 5-minute shootout. A shaky Sector one saw Marciello2 tenths down on Pierre Gasly’s time. Coming  the Lesmo’s Raffaele Marciello encountered the back of the train with cars warming up for their final runs. Deviating from the racing line cost the Italian 0.4 tenths through the through the second DRS. Marciello wasn’t  going to be able to find 4 tenths in the final sector so he elected to abort his final lap leaving him currently in P8 with less can 4 minutes to go.

Currently, the top 5 position were filled by, Gasly, Giovinazi,A Prema front row followed Evans, Markelov, and King.

Oliver Rowland again was the first the driver to take to the track wanting a clear run in front of him for his laps. Arthur Pic and Alex Lynn near miss as Pic tried to overtake Lynn. unsighted in his mirrors Lynn placed his car right in the way of  Pic, neither driver sustained contact from the clash but certainly not leaving Pic pleased with Lynn!

Oliver Rowland was unable to improve  after losing time in the middle sector.Time kept coming down in the Midfield as drivers including Mitch Evans, Nicholas Latifi, and Antonio Giovinazzi all found an extra bit of track to improve their times.  But no-one again was able to better the time of Frenchman Pierre Gasly  who once again for the third time this season took Pole Position ahead of Teammate Giovinazzi, On his final lap Gasly was able to find nearly a third of a second to secure yet another Pole position and head yet another PREMA Powerteam 1-2 with Giovinazzi just behind.

The fastest time set by Pierre Gasly was a 1:31.199 faster than teammate Gionvinazzi by 0.054. Arthur Pic set the best second of course to  the 4th place start ahead of tomorrow’s Feature race whilst a strong showing from Mitch Evans proved to the grid that he can still perform set a time good enough for 5th Place.
