Jeff Smith has announced that he is to continue driving for Eurotech Racing in 2017. The 50 year old, who bought the team of father of Andrew, Mike Jordan at the end of 2014, will once again race a Honda Civic Type-R in what will be his third consecutive season in the BTCC and sixth overall.
During his career Smith has achieved two podiums and a best finish of 12th in the standings. Last season saw Smith finish 18th, three places clear of teammate Martin Depper with a best finish of fourth at Thruxton.
Eurotech also briefly ran a third car in 2016 for rookie Daniel Lloyd who excelled while behind the wheel, qualifying on the front row twice before budget issues forced Lloyd to withdraw from the remainder of the season.
2017 will see Smith partnered with a new teammate as Depper as left Eurotech, with an announcement on his replacement in the second car due soon.
Smith was quoted in saying, “You can’t stand still in this championship, back at base in our new 8,000 square foot state of the art workshop the team have been flat out since we finished the last round at Brands Hatch. We have a full testing programme in place which includes a week long test in Spain at the end of February, so I believe we will be in a strong position to move forwards in 2017.”
