LMP3 Cup – Championship leaders off to a fast start at Snetterton

The Nielsen Racing pairing of Alasdair McCaig and Colin Noble, currently leading the Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup, are off on the right foot for the ninth and tenth rounds of the series, from Snetterton.

After heavy rain during the week leading up to the race, the circuit was very much washed clean, with some of the drivers taking the opportunity to test on the Thursday before the race, so as to get up to speed with the limited running that is offered during the weekend.

For the morning practice session, there was a light breeze around the circuit, with the sun peeping through the light clouds. Alasdair McCaig initially went to the top of the standings, before handing over to teammate Colin Noble for the second half of the hour long practice session. McCaig said afterwards that he was struggling with some understeer, and that the level of grip on the circuit still seemed quite low. However the Scot completed 20 laps, with the focus for them being this afternoons 60 minute long race. Noble on his final lap put in the session fastest time of a 1.44.266.

In second place was the Douglas Motorsports pair of Mike Newbould and Thomas Randle, lapping nearly half a second slower with best time of 1.45.587.

The second place in the championship car of Tony Wells and Matt Bell, ran by United Autosport, lapped third quickest, 1.2 seconds off Noble’s fastest time.

The second UA car of Christian England and Andrew Evans, a car which has been on the pace so far this season, were down in fifth place, with a best of a 1.46.544. England, a driver who does not have much experience on the ‘300’ layout being used this weekend, said after the session that they had spent the morning bedding the brakes in, having not competed in the test during the week. However Snetterton is a well known circuit to the United Autosport crew, so expect them to be near the top come the race.

Unfortunately, T Sport are not in attendance this weekend, leaving five cars to take the green flag, which is at 15:10 GMT. Qualifying begins at 12:15GMT, which is a short ten minute affair to decide the grid for todays race.
