With the winter out of the way and the beginning of the motorsport season firmly within reach, I thought it would be a good idea to just turn back time to January when the annual Autosport International show was at the NEC in Birmingham.
Williams F1 had a special feature as it was the teams 40th anniversary. Cars from past and present littered the show floor in a huge display. There was some terrific stands from the F1 cars to the smaller car clubs and championships such as the Mini Challenge and the 750 Motor Club. Many championships from GT classes all the way through to F4 and tin tops were present and having the latest machinery on show for the fans to get up close with. Alongside the stands, there was the always popular Autosport stand where drivers and high profile names from the motoring world, would have their say on the year ahead. For many though, the highlight was the live action arena, which boasted an impressive line up of supercars and race cars from past and present, including a collection of rallycross cars dating back to the 60s and it celebrated its 50 years.
The BTCC stand was full of announcements as many teams were present to show off the new liveries and drivers for the season ahead. Andrew Jordan,Mat Jackson,Rob Austin,Ant Whorton-Eales,Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden were among the several BTCC drivers present at the show.
There was also plenty of eye candy on offer for the petrolhead who came in their thousands through the doors of the NEC over the weekend. Team Lotus had a special display of classic F1 cars from their illustrious past, tuning company Liberty Walk were showcasing a Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari 458 in full body kits which were very impressive and COYS had a special auction, putting some very rare machinery under the hammer.
Keen supercar enthusiasts were in for a treat as there was plenty to feast their eyes on. The striking Oakley Design Bugatti Veyron was present, this was special considering it as the only Veyron in the country with the Oakley Design spec. Popular Youtuber’s Shmee150 and MRJWW were in attendance with there daily supercars, the Aston Martin Vantage GT8 and Mclaren 675lt. Other supercars on show included the new Ford GT, Honda NSX, Mclaren 570s, KTM X Bow and Nissan GTR.
So it was the perfect way to kick off 2017 and whet the appetite of all motorsport fans going into the new season.
