UPDATED: Martin takes Moto3 pole ahead of Italian GP

Moto3 is pretty famous for towing. You can always bank on seeing riders lingering around at the side of the track, waiting for someone fast to come round. But this time, they hadn’t even made it out of pit lane before the towing began.

A nasty crash from Nicolo Bulega seemingly saw his qualifying session brought to an abrupt end, after finding some kind of pace and cementing himself in 3rd. It wasn’t over for the Italian, even after the crash he managed to have set a time that was quick enough for others to struggle to beat. He sits in 5th position ahead of the race tomorrow.

A lot of laps were being cancelled due to riders exceeding track limits – mainly at turn 5. It seems that grid penalties will be in order, mostly concerning Moto3 FP3, where riders were seen cruising. It is still unconfirmed who will be starting from where, but John McPhee who qualified in 2nd told BT Sport that he thought he had a 12 place grid penalty. Again, this is unconfirmed.

Moto3 Qualifying results top 10 (subject to change):

Jorge Martin, Del Conca Gresini Moto3 – 1:57.176

John McPhee, British Talent Team + 0.148

Joan Mir, Leopard Racing + 0.194

Fabio Di Giannantonio, Del Conca Gresini Moto3 + 0.419

Nicolo Bulega, Sky Racing Team VR46 + 0.592

Juanfran Guevara, RBA BOE Racing Team + 0.736

Romano Fenati, Marinelli Rivacold Snipers + 0.778

Marcus Ramirez, Platinum Bay Real Estate + 0.802

Bo Bendsneyder, Red Bull KTM Ajo + 0.817

Tatsuki Suzuki, Sic58 Squadra Corse + 0.877

Update: It has recently been announced that Jorge Martin will receive a 12 place grid penalty for cruising in FP3. John McPhee will be starting from pole position tomorrow, ahead of Mir and Di Giannantonio.
