Mercedes AMG Petronas team boss Toto Wolff has faith that the engineers will solve the setup problems in time to allow Lewis Hamilton to win his fourth driver’s championship.
After a difficult run of races for the Mercedes team from a performance perspective, the team is hopeful of turning around this late season performance deficit to Ferrari and recently Red Bull.
Despite winning in Singapore and finishing second in Malaysia, Hamilton and his Mercedes team have been struggling with the setup on both cars, being out paced by title rivals Ferrari.
Without the first lap collision in Singapore and the engine problems in Malaysia, it is very possible that Mercedes would have finished off the podium in the previous two races.
Wolff praised his engineers after what he described as the “best” debrief he had witnessed in his time at the team.
Whilst Hamilton is making the best of the current situation, team mate Valtteri Bottas is struggling with the W08 and has been resoundingly beaten by Hamilton in the last few races.
Whilst still mathematically being in the championship hunt, it is now likely the Mercedes team will force the Finn into being a supporting driver for the Brit in the final races of the season.
The next round of the championship takes place this weekend at the Japanese Grand Prix the Suzuka Circuit.
