Ricky Taylor was in a class of his own during qualifying at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, setting a scorching lap which landed his #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi on a pole position eight tenths clear of his nearest rival.
Taylor’s early pace in the session boded well for the Cadillac driver, after he immediately went top of the time sheets even with a messy first flying lap.
On his fastest lap, a 1:16.853, the cameras picked up a sliding Taylor exiting the last corner and using all of the road, showing he got the absolute maximum from his WTR machine.
Qualifying in second position was fellow Cadillac driver Christian Fittipaldi, who clocked a time of 1:17.682 in his #5 Action Express car, ahead of Marc Goossens in the #90 Visit Florida Racing global Ligier LMP2, who was just under a tenth shy of Fittipaldi’s time.
In fourth place, another car separated by just under a tenth from his closest competitor was the second Action Express Cadillac, the #31 of Eric Curran, who placed just ahead of the #52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports Ligier LMP2 of Jose Guitierrez.
Extreme Speed Motorsports qualified sixth and seventh with the #2 Nissan DPi of Scott Sharp ahead of the #22 of Johannes van Overbeek, the team struggling to build on a positive start to the weekend in which they posted the fastest time of Friday’s practice sessions.
The #85 JDC/Miller Motorsports ORECA LMP2 car qualified last in class, with Misha Goikhberg posting a 1:18.646, almost two seconds off Ricky Taylor’s pole position lap.
Broadcasting and livestreaming for the two-hour and fourty-minute race gets underway tomorrow at around 4:55 PM EDT; around 9pm GMT.
