Spanish motorcycling legend Angel Nieto has passed away aged 70, following implications from a road traffic accident in Ibiza when he came off the quad bike he was riding.
Nieto referred to his 13 world titles as ’12+1′ due to superstition, and had 90 GP wins to his name. He had the third most Grand Prix victories, with only Giacomo Agostini and Valentino Rossi in front of him, and was well and truly a legend of the sport.
The motorsport community have taken to the Internet to share their sympathy, and this weekend’s MotoGP race in Brno will surely be for Nieto. Our thoughts go out to Angel’s friends and family at this deeply difficult time, he will be sorely missed.
