Lotus announced today that Rene Binder and Pietro Fittipaldi would drive for the team in their quest for the Formula V8 title.
Fittipaldi joins Lotus after a quiet debut season with Fortec Motorsport, in which he showed glimpses of potential, scoring a solitary podium. He finished 2016 driving for Lotus on the end of season tests and has made the arrangement a more permanent one. The more experienced Binder remains for a second season, have debuted for the team in 2016 following a number of years in GP2, and having a relatively successful year finishing seventh in the championship with five podiums.
The announcements bring the total of confirmed drivers for the season to three, as Alfonso Celis Jr had already committed to another year, although having moved across to take one of the two empty seats at Fortec, the other having been vacated by Louis Deletraz after his switch to GP2. This is the first year of 3.5 being part of the WEC, which is hoped will raise the profile of the series to new heights.
